Woooah, just having morning coffee, and what’s that in Cycling Weekly - yes, it’s a customers bike; Ethan Squires (Paul Squires).
Many of you keen Strava monkeys riding in the Vale of Belvoir may be wondering why you can’t get the KoMs….he’s why! 🤣
Chapeau Ethan!![]()
PS. No Two Cycles also service bike for mere mortals too…. ![]()

A regular question here at No Two towers…..what’s the best saddle?
With so many saddles to choose from and everyones different physiology (and mobility), getting the right saddle can be a nightmare.![]()
So here’s some great advice; by a cheap saddle and just train your ass….![]()
But a Fizik Argo or Brooks c15 is a good start….. 😊![]()

The weather may not say Summer Holiday, but my body and diary do…..![]()
Hill walking and then the Lincoln 262 …. relaxing times ahead! 🤣
Diaries; planners; organisers; fag-packets….. some of you use ‘em, some of you don’t.![]()
I mentioned back in early March that the workshop diary was filling up quickly and indeed it has …. and continues to do so.![]()
What with all the servicing commitments and my own early-Summer leave, the workshop diary is now full until June. Yes, JUNE.![]()
I have programmed in slots and capacity during my normal working week for those smaller, or emergency jobs, but for scheduled servicing, the answer is likely to be June onwards.![]()
Your long-awaited trip; the Sportive you entered in December; the summer arriving, or the cyclo-cross season starting, none should come as a surprise, so please do give me a call, book early. ![]()
Of course, I’ll always do what I can to help with any last minute issues…. Have a great summer.
The worst I’ve seen……![]()
I’ve seen corroded bars before; normally sweaty indoor/turbo bikes, but wow, I’ve never seen this in person. Total failure of an alloy bar.![]()
Sweat destroys alloy bars and the damage isn’t always visible….drop scrimp on changing bar-tape regularly.![]()
Thankfully the rider was OK when this bar failed.
I was enjoy a ride today and just saying to my friend how lucky we are in this area….some great roads and rolling scenery….BikeRadar certainly knows….Rutland hides a treasure trove of striking landscapes and quiet roads. Mark Bailey embarks on a 100km loop.
Didn’t ride much last year; this year mojo has returned (too many lovely bikes through the workshop!)……do I break myself in gently….or just enter the Velo29 Lincoln 262. (www.strava.com/routes/3464382706991042182)![]()
PS. Rhetorical question; entry fee paid. ![]()
I’ve done several events with Velo26, in the Yorkshire Beast … twice. At least this one is flat!! 12 weeks to go, beat get training! 💪![]()

Just a short hop from thw workshop…. ![]()
There was a queue for sausage rolls this morning……hardly surprising; we’re well served by The Croxton Village Shop……and they’ve very cycling friendly too…not just dogs) 🚴🏻🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♀️🐶🎂🍰☕️![]()

Yup, I am old-skool….but a paper diary just works for me (doesn’t need wifi, or recharging….).![]()
Anyhow, the point - the diary is filling up. March is pretty much booked now. ![]()
I see from another post that Jack at Windmill Wheels is booking into April / May, and with Michaels Cycles closing and passing me some custom, the need to schedule servicing is becoming even more important.![]()
Of course I will always try to fit in those ‘emergency’ issues, and still try to operate my Saturday opening as a ‘Quick-fix / drop-in’ session. ![]()
So the message; if you want scheduled servicing for your bike, please do plan ahead to help both me and you (mainly you..) 😄![]()
Please also understand that if you have a slot booked, and you’ve waited 3 weeks for it, that’s generally the slot your bike will be serviced - not pitching up until the end of the day or suggesting ‘tomorrow will do’, is likely to mean you’ll rejoin the list.
I will always do my utmost to try and accomodate collection/drop-off both in and out of hours as I know you all have busy lives too…..![]()
Thanks to everyone; here’s to a great summer …… yes, todays sun has given me (false?) optimism…. 😎☀️
Let’s just take a moment…. #bikeporn![]()
Two very, very different bikes. Well, more specifically, two very similar bikes, but from very different times. And yes, these bikes are both the same size (59/60cm)![]()
An original Bianchi Krono lo-pro TT bike. 1989-ish. Columbus steel frame, 14 spd Shimano 105 Biopace (52/42) and 23c tyres on Wolber rims. Let’s not start on the aggressive position….from a time when we thought we knew about getting aero, burt didn’t. I’m going to ride it later, and I’m scared. ![]()
Fast forward to 2016-ish (I’ve cheated). This is my old Boardman Bikes SLS carbon road bike, beautifully resprayed last year by Black Cat Customs and now a TT set-up. It’s now sporting a mix of Campagnolo Chorus and Record, 53/39 to an 11spd cassette with bar-end shifters. ![]()
It’s a 2kg lighter than the Bianchi !!!![]()

I often get asked if I sell bikes …. and generally the answer is ‘no’ (because I run a workshop, not a dealership…).![]()
However, in this instance, I have some bikes to sell; full details and photos to come, but for now, here’s a taster;![]()
- Brick Lane Bikes fixie / single speed; large frame, drop bars, front brake only.![]()
- 1970/80s Vintage Dawes Galaxy touring bike; 60cm frame; 10 spd; Reynolds 531.![]()
- Hope HB130 full-sus MTB; Ohlins suspension; sz large. >300miles from new.![]()
- Kinesis Tripster with full Shimano 2x GRX; sz 57![]()
- Trek Domane SLS; Shimano 105 Hydraulic brakes; sz 54![]()
- and potentially; my Kinesis Tripster; SRAM AXS 12spd, Rotor chainset, Hope brakes…. sz 58/L![]()
Bikes will undoubtedly go on FB, but there’ll be a period where they’ll be exclusively available to customers.![]()
All bikes will be serviced; happy to discuss tweaks/customisation too….. ![]()
So what are you waiting for? (and don’t say ‘more details’ - I know, and I’m on it!)
** Peaty's products stocked at No Two Cycles ** ![]()
In addition to the lubes, greases and cleaning products, I now almost exclusively use Peatys sealant (only exception to this is if a customer insists on their own sealant).![]()
I’ve used a number of sealants over the years, MTB, gravel and road - Peatys is the only one I’d recommend.
Please see below; can you help? ![]()
I know most of you may not remember your first road bike, but I’m sure any/all feedback is welcome!![]()
PS. Don’t respond to me, respond to the original post, or direct to Hannah.![]()
ThanksHave you started road cycling recently? ![]()
If so, did you manage to get going for cheap as chips, or did you go full throttle and spend big time on your first road bike?
Perhaps you were given 'advice' (unsolicited or otherwise) on how much you needed to spend?![]()
I'm writing a piece about the true cost of starting road cycling and would love to hear from you. ![]()
If you would like to share your experiance please drop me a line at hannah.bussey@futurenet.com, or leave a comment below. Thanks!
** January only ** ![]()
I can’t believe how the year has just whizzed by; the workshop is already full in Nov, but I still have slots in Dec (and remains open until 23 Dec).![]()
This is just an advanced warning; Jan is likely to be a busy month for a number of external, non-bike reasons, so rather than provide an erratic or half-arsed service, the workshop will be closed for the duration of Jan ‘26 and will reopen on 2 Feb.![]()
Hopefully this’ll give you enough time to plan any scheduled servicing - I’m sure I’ll probably still end up helping anyone with an emergency and also those folk to whom anything happening beyond the end of the week still seems to come as a surprise…. 🤣 I love ya all!!
What a great article. We’re lucky enough to have a number of clubs in our region; cycling (all sport) should be safe and inclusive. If clubs are welcoming and make new/all riders feel welcome and safe, cycling will thrive…. after all, we ride because we love it; share that passion. ![]()
www.facebook.com/share/1ZvQpeBehx/?mibextid=wwXIfrThe new “inclusive” cycling clubs are going to kill someone.![]()
And I’ll be the one who gets called a gatekeeper for saying it.![]()
I watched a group ride last week. 30 riders. Zero hand signals. ![]()
Overlapping wheels everywhere. ![]()
One guy braking mid-corner in the bunch.![]()
It was the most “welcoming” ride I’ve ever seen.
No intimidating rules. No stuffy customs. Just “show up and ride.”![]()
It was also a ticking time bomb.![]()
I LOVE that cycling is becoming more accessible. ![]()
The traditional club model, with its unwritten rules and insider knowledge, has kept too many people out for too long.![]()
But the pendulum has swung too far.![]()
These “rules” we’re abandoning? They’re not there to exclude people. ![]()
They’re cycling’s version of Darwin.![]()
Holding your line through corners. Signaling when you stand. Never overlapping wheels. Calling out road hazards. Knowing how to ride a crosswind in formation.![]()
These customs weren’t invented by stuffy club elites to make newcomers feel small. They were developed over 100+ years of trial and error. ![]()
They exist because the alternative was crashing, injury, and chaos.![]()
Every mature industry has “unwritten rules” that seem like gatekeeping but are actually compressed wisdom.![]()
In surgery, there’s a protocol for everything. ![]()
In aviation, there’s a checklist culture. ![]()
In cycling, there are bunch riding customs.![]()
Calling these “barriers to entry” misses the point entirely.![]()
I rode with a new club last month that throws out all the “old school” rules. ![]()
They’re growing fast. ![]()
Everyone’s having fun.![]()
Until someone hit a pothole and went down. ![]()
Then three more riders went down because they were overlapping wheels and couldn’t react.![]()
The organizer said: “Crashes happen, it’s part of cycling.”![]()
No. ![]()
Preventable crashes happen when you ignore 100 years of hard-earned knowledge.![]()
I want to mix up the status quo![]()
I want new clubs that challenge stuffy customs ![]()
I want fresh energy and perspectives ![]()
I want lower barriers to entry ![]()
But ![]()
I also want these clubs teaching the fundamentals that keep people safe ![]()
I want them respecting why the rules exist before breaking them ![]()
You can be inclusive AND have standards.![]()
The most welcoming thing you can do for a new rider isn’t to eliminate all the rules—it’s to teach them why those rules exist and give them the skills to ride confidently in a group.![]()
We don’t need to choose between tradition and inclusion.![]()
We need to teach the newcomers what took us decades to learn.![]()
Because the group ride is more fun when everyone knows what they’re doing.![]()
And the rules aren’t there to exclude you, they’re there to bring you home safely.
Lots and lots to see at Rouleur Live; I won’t bombard you with photos (although I did nerd-out on the Endura bearings stand)……but let’s take a moment to ogle at this Hope track bike AND that 70T chainring!!! 💪💪
